Northeastern Launches Social Impact Lab

February 5, 2014

Described as “a hub of innovative experiential curricula, programming, and events designed to empower social change and civic engagement across disciplines and around the world,” Northeastern University’s new Social Impact Lab officially launched this semester. Building on the signature “Giving With Purpose” MOOC (massive open online course) created with Doris Buffett’s Learning by Giving Foundation, the lab’s Director Rebecca Riccio describes the learning experience envisioned for students:

“The MOOC epitomizes our vision of the Social Impact Lab as a conduit between theory and practice—a platform for students to apply what they are learning in the classroom to real-world challenges and opportunities. Our goal is to give students a comprehensive toolkit for translating good intentions into effective, financially sustainable strategies for achieving social change.”
